17 Bands & Artistes on 3 Stages in aid of the Gilbert Richards Centre The following contains excerpts from the official press release
Proving that the kids are still alright, Coventry’s celebration for the over 50’s in October 2007 culminated in a response to Jimi Hendrix's “Are You Experienced” with a concert on Saturday 6th October at the Albany Club in Earlsdon. The concert entitled Fade to Grey featured 17 bands on three stages bringing together all ages within the community through music.
In the lounge was the World Music Stage comprising mainly acoustic sets free for all club members and visitors. This continued the club's tradition of providing top class entertainment with a range of styles not normally associated with the Social Club scene. In the concert room some of Coventry’s top bands performed.
In the Club's car park was The Coors sponsored Festival Marquee with a bar and small acoustic stage inside. There were food stalls to keep everyonel going, stalls promoting Age Concern and Help the Aged and some craft stalls. All the money raised went to Age Concern's activites at the Gilbert Richards Centre. Barclays Bank donated £1000 in line with their Community Investment Programme. There was also a raffle with some great prizes automatically entered when buying a ticket.
Tickets for the concert cost £8.00 and all the bands played for free with the proceeds going to support the Age Concern activities at the Gilbert Richard Centre in Broadway, Earlsdon. The event was made possible through the generous support of the Albany Club and Barclays bank Plc who match funded the event as part of their community Investment programme. Many local traders donated prizes for a super raffle.
So let the good times roll and show them we are not ready to “Fade Away” With the success of the first Fade to Grey festival, the attendees and Albany Club members raised over £4000 pounds of which went to maintain Activities at the Gilbert Richards Centre in Earlsdon. Special Thanks would like to be expressed by Debbie Hazelhurst from the GRC to the Albany Club for their fantastic support and to the organisers of the event. With the money raised new cupboards for the pottery room were purchased, classrooms were decorated and the kiln has now been successfully saved. The centre is a vital asset to many local residents in and around Earlsdon and provides social support and educational classes too many older people in the area.
